Production Company SONNY London was co founded by Fredrik Bond and Helen Kenny in February 2007. Specialising mainly in commercials production the story behind the birth of the company goes further back than one could ever imagine…
…1998 was a big year.
Titanic won 11 Oscars, Gardemoen Airport opened in Oslo, George Michael ‘came out’ as Pete Sampras won Wimbledon… and Helen met Fredrik.
The pair were introduced at a well-known black tie event, the BTA Craft Awards and bonded over Fredrik’s extraordinarily confident dress sense. It was only after a few vodka-based cocktails that Fredrik confessed to Helen he wasn’t the fashion antidote that everyone presumed – he simply misheard wear a ‘nice suit’ for ‘white suit’.
From that meeting a working relationship developed between them, resulting in 7 award-winning years together creating some of the most prestigious ads the industry has seen to date, and provided a great quiver of BTA arrows to call their own.
Whilst their teamed success soared to unimaginable heights unfortunately so did Fredrik’s mini-bar bills and in 2005 Helen felt that only when Fredrik had overcome his chocolate covered demons, they would be able to continue. Fredrik left for the States to immerse himself in aversion therapy. Helen waited patiently.
Two years later, Fredrik ‘popped’ to Helen’s house for dinner in an attempt to rekindle their working relationship. The occasion was a stupendous success and Fredrik ended the evening with a 314page PowerPoint presentation entitled ‘Commercials Production & Justifiable Pringle Addiction in the Scandinavian Genetic.’
Helen was left astounded by the fabulously flawless 4 hour monologue, provoking her to once again to join forces with Fredrik and form ‘SONNY London’.
Fredrik and Helen’s astute eye for spotting and nurturing exceptional talent means that SONNY now represents a stable of the best commercial directors currently on the scene.
The moral of this story: men in white suits don’t only sell ice-cream, Tata.
